OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY

What is steaming?

Steaming is a time-honored tradition handed down through generations, serving as more than just a method of using herbs—it's a profound spiritual tool. Rooted in teachings from Rastafari elders, steaming harnesses the healing properties of various plants and herbs.

A Steam Chalice is essentially a natural vaporizerSteaming avoids burning the herb, using filtered heat instead with the coconut charcoal heating the clay kutchie creating an oven for the herbs- this allow you to really enjoy and taste the terpenes. The chalice has main parts: the Base (holds water), the Kutchie (holds herbs), the Gritty (separates coal), and the Stem (draws vapor).

Why steam?

One of the cleanest methods to enjoy and reap the benefits of herbs is through steaming. Unlike smoking, which can be harsh, steaming the herb preserves the plant's nutrients rather than burning them away and giving a pleasant aroma.

Steaming combines the essential elements of nature: earth, air, fire, and water. Earth is the clay oven, fire is the coals, water creates steam, and air is the vapor produced. Together, these elements unite in one vessel, offering a unique experience that promotes harmony of mind, body, and soul.

Why coconut charcoal?

Steaming uses coconut charcoal due to its ideal burning temperature, lack of harmful toxins, and purity. The process involves cleaning and burning coconut shells to produce activated charcoal, which effectively whitens teeth and removes impurities from the body.

MEET THE CREATOR OF STEAM TEAM

Kevin Campbell, curator of SteamTeamJA, dedicates his life to the spiritual and healing practice of steaming. His mission is to share Rastafari steaming culture with future generations, emphasizing its role in connecting elders and youth, expanding consciousness, and nurturing the mind-body connection. As the curator Steam Team, Campbell aims to educate others on the physical and spiritual benefits of steaming, viewing it as a vital self-healing practice and daily ritual.
